Cheap Scotland Travel![]() Some our our Cheap Scotland Trav el recommendations: 1. Buy an Historic Scotland Pass. Admission fees tend to be high oin Scotland (and in the UK in general). If you are going to Scotland only, an Historic Scotland Pass covers many sites you'll want to visit at a reasonable cost. You can buy the passes in many durations. If you are combing a trip to Scotland with England or Wales, a Great Britain Heritage pass may be a better choice. 2. Stay in Edinburgh, at a cheaper Edinburgh Accommodation. We like Melvin House for its location and price. 3. Day tours can be taken from Edinburgh and Glasgow if you are short on time. You can see a goof bit of the highlands, or St. Andrews, or elsewhere in a day tour from Edinburgh. 4. More time on your hands to visit Scotland? Then drive. It's easy, once you become accustomed to the "other" side of the road. Explore whreever you wish,. Getting lost is half the fun. I rememebr taking a "creative" way to get through the Scottish highlands where we drove through the middle of a herd of sheep in the middle of a rural road. Priceless! 5. If you are interested in visiting the islands off of Scotland, a hopscotch pass, available from CalMac is the solution. Reasonable rates, and a frequest schedule. 6. Make sure you book your accommodation on the islands in advance, or you could wind up miles out of the way, at a place that may not suit your style of travel. 7. Avoid Edinburgh in August. The Edinburgh Military Tattoo and Edinburgh Festival both take place then. Alhtough they are both wonderful events, they drive up the price of hotel rooms dramatically. If you MUST attend these events, stay outside of town, but book WAY in advance. 8 Glasgow is worth a visit, but not an overnight. A panoramic tour of Glasgow will be perfect. 9. If you are returning to the USA, flights from Glasgow and Edinburgh depart early in the AM, so staying close to the airport would be best. Don't bother dropping your car the night before - you have already paid for a day. By the way, 6 and 7 day rentals are uaully the same price. 10. Flights to Ireland can be cheap, along with a low cost flight to Scotland on Ryanair or Flybe can be a winner..
