Considering there are no language barriers, traveling to the British Isles and Ireland is relatively easy even for the first-time visitor or independent traveler. The British and Irish love to talk about the weather, and the stereotype of the British man who never leaves home without an umbrella is well versed. Happily, not only does it not rain every day, these countries enjoy long periods of warm sunshine during the summer with England being the driest. And the rain creates the lush green countryside that is so well admired. One of the greatest transformations in these countries in recent years has been in cuisine. Once known for its unappetizing meals, Edinburgh and Dublin have their fair share of gourmet venues. This revolution has spread out of the cities and into the countryside too, so that fine restaurants are opening up all over to satisfy the growing demand of travelers and locals alike for good cooking served in congenial surroundings. The Scottish are also among the most friendly. They have a great respect for peoples privacy and will therefore leave you alone, at first. But if you make a move to engage in conversation, the warmth and hospitality with which you are received will charm you. As for the Irish, their charm and hospitality are legendary. This is an escorted tour to Scotland and Ireland, but can also be adapted as a self drive car tour of Scotland. Day 1: Depart U.S. for Scotland. Depart U.S. on your overnight flight to Glasgow, either traveling direct or via London. Day 2: Glasgow Highlights Land in Glasgow Airport where you'll meet your driver/guide or representative.
